Day 12: Facebook pages and groups

Social media sites like Facebook have created a massive platform for people to make connections with distant people. There are countess genealogy, family heritage, and even orphan photo groups on Facebook connecting cousins, reuniting families, and sharing information. Searches by name or area on Facebook can be a valuable tool to help move research ahead. Many paid lineage societies and pages have free Facebook pages where information is posted and research experts often answer questions.

A few of my favorite pages and groups are:

The Shuck Funny Farm – a group dedicated to the Shuck family of West Virginia

EVART AREA HISTORICAL SOCIETY – Preserving the history of Evart, Michigan

Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness – RAOGK USA
